The Cover of Vanity in Dust!

Vanity in Dust 6x9_draft

I think I’ve had a unique experience as far as book covers go. Linn Arvidsson, the cover artist, is one of my beta readers. She reads absolutely everything I write and rereads it when I make big changes. I don’t think Vanity in Dust has a bigger fan in the world. So, I felt completely at ease when she contacted my publisher about doing the cover art. I’ve seen her work before and she knows the story.

After tossing around a bunch of ideas, she decided to do a photoshoot to make her own stockpile of pictures. Not just for this cover, but for the next couple covers. Luckily for us, my husband is not only the perfect model for Vaun Dray Fen, but also has an ever-growing collection of suits and vests. We did the photoshoot the same weekend Phong and I were in Umeå to get married.

The flowers on the table are actually ones I reused from my bouquet. The gold cup, I spray painted myself. And all of the treats are very real. We ate the ones that survived the shoot afterward. We brought enough treats and porcelain to redress the table three times and Phong managed to change his hair as well as his outfit each time too.

It was so much fun to be a part of the making of the cover, or at least there to watch it happen, and I am so happy with how it turned out. Linn is amazing!

Vanity in Dust release date

Vanity in dust banner
We’re excited to announce that Cheryl Low’s debut fantasy novel, VANITY IN DUST, will be available in ebook and paperback August 8, 2017. VANITY IN DUST is the first in the Crowns & Ash series,  set in a decadent dark fantasy world of hedonism, addiction, and political intrigue.

About the Book

In the Realm there are whispers. Whispers that the city used to be a different place. That before the Queen ruled there was a sky beyond the clouds and a world beyond their streets.

Vaun Dray Fen never knew that world. Born a prince without a purpose in a Realm ruled by lavish indulgence, unrelenting greed, and vicious hierarchy, he never knew a time before the Queen’s dust drugged the city. Everything is poisoned to distract and dull the senses, even the tea and pastries. And yet, after more than a century, his own magic is beginning to wake. The beautiful veneer of the Realm is cracking. Those who would defy the Queen turn their eyes to Vaun, and the dust saturating the Realm.

From the carnivorous pixies in the shadows to the wolves in the streets, Vaun thought he knew all the dangers of his city. But when whispers of treason bring down the fury of the Queen, he’ll have to race to save the lives and souls of those he loves.

About the Author

Picture

Cheryl Low might be an Evil Queen, sipping tea and peeping on everyone from high up in her posh tower—a job she got only after being fired from her gig as Wicked Witch for eating half the gingerbread house.

…Or she might be a relatively mundane human with a love for all things sugary and soap opera slaps.Find out by following her on social media @cherylwlow or check her webpage, cheryllow.com. The answer might surprise you! But it probably won’t.

We’ll be revealing the cover for VANITY IN DUST on May 10th. If you have a book-related blog, join our cover reveal team so you can see it before anyone else, and also have the chance to receive an advance review copy.

While you wait for the cover, please add VANITY IN DUST to your Goodreads shelf, and follow Cheryl Low on Twitter.

Cafe ~ Börje Olsson ~ Luleå

fikabanner

My favorite thing to do is to go to a cafe. I love them. LOVE them. And Sweden has a seemingly endless number of adorable cafes. This one we found in Luleå!

fika2

It’s adorable and they have their own porcelain set! I want to buy the cup! Next time we’re there I’m going to ask if they sell them. I’m pretty sure they don’t, but that’s how much I want one.

fika3

The cafe itself was incredibly cute and welcoming and the staff really nice with a great sellection of treats. I had a vanilla latte and a lemon biskvi and Phong had a semla and hot soy milk (he doesn’t like coffee). They even foamed his milk!

If you find yourself in Luleå, or anywhere near Luleå, find Börje Olssons! It’s worth it!

Returning

Okay, I’ve been away for a while. We did a long vacation in the States to visit family and do a little honeymooning. We were mostly in Northern California but did a little adventure to New York. Expect blog posts to catch up! For the Redwoods, Scandinavain Air with travel tips and my hatred of airplane food, New York, my 8 hour hair coloring experience, the Jelly Belly Factory and Monterey to list a few.

We had a great time and are nestled at home in Kiruna once more!

IKEA!

ikea5

After living in Sweden for six years I finally, for the first time ever, went to an IKEA!

ikea3

I had no idea IKEA was so much fun! I did, although, know that Phong would be crazy entertaining wherever I happened to take him.

ikea1

Here he is trying out the stability of a bed for pull ups. He still talks about this bed, by the way.

ikea2

He leafed through magazines, lounged on couches and even tested every tablet he came across–just in case it actually worked.

ikea4

He spent a couple minutes tidying up the umbrellas. We were here for hours!

ikea6

Lunch time at IKEA! I had no idea how great this place was.

ikea8

Do all IKEA cafeterias have these adorable tray carts? I love them so much! We didn’t really need to take a cart, we were three adults, but come on!

ikea9

I also loved the conveyor belt that takes away your dishes! I wish my kitchen had one of these..

Phong and I are playing with the idea of an IKEA weekend, like a vacation, but we’ll go to IKEA instead of the beach or a cabin.
